GOLF

Don Moss’s collection of golf paintings and prints is by far the largest category in this archive, encompassing a range of media and many different stylistic approaches.

Landscapes were primarily rendered in realistic detail with great care to highlight the great beauty of the landscape and the glow of golden light. Dick Gangel, art director for Sports Illustrated, encouraged Moss to experiment with other painting styles such as Surrealism and Pointillism, inspiring him to both create a story and add humor within the painting. Moss traveled the world to paint famous courses and holes, and a number of these paintings are available as prints.

He also painted dozens of aerial view maps of golf courses, finely rendered and semi-realistic for use in marketing various tournaments.

His list of clients included Golf Digest Magazine, Golf Magazine, Sports Marketing Group/Martin Davis, as well as many private golf clubs and organizations.
