WINTER SPORTS

Moss was an avid and active fan of winter sports; he played hockey in his youth and continued skiing into his 80s.

Covers for Ski magazine in the late ’40s are now a nostalgic look at the early days of skiing. Later, Moss delighted in assignments from Sports Illustrated that took him to mountains around the country and the opportunity to ski spectacular trails in the company of expert skiiers. Moss created dozens of aerial-view paintings for ski maps. He also designed logos for ski manufacturers such as Olin and Head, and for mountains such as Stratton and Okemo. He is probably best known in this genre for his work for the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, including the official mascot, “Ronnie the Raccoon.”
