COVERS

Millions of people have seen paintings by Don Moss, even if they don’t recognize him by name. He painted dozens of magazine covers from the late ’40s through the early ’80s, and more covers for Sports Illustrated than any other artist during a time when its circulation was over 2 million per week.  His cover of Dolphin’s coach Don Shula for Time magazine reached a circulation 4 million.  Some of his most charming covers were for sporting publications in the late ’40s and early ’50s such as SKI and Elks magazine. Broader themes in an idealized American life were often featured on the cover of Todays Living, the Sunday magazine for the New York Herald Tribune.
